Camper Support Coordinator
The Camper Support Coordinator provides supports to campers who may have non-medical needs such as mental health or behavioural needs, homesickness, cultural integration, gender or sexual diversity. Collaborating with the parents/caregivers, camper, and cabin leaders, they develop and help implement a support plan for the greatest possibility of a successful week at camp. They will be the first point of contact if a camper needs to call home. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and be certified in First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain). Preference is given to those who have experience in providing similar care or are in a related field of study (such as youth care worker, social work, or education).
Remuneration
The Camper Support Coordinator position is an 8 week program support team position + paid training times.
Organization/Authority
The Camper Support Coordinator is responsible directly to the Directors.
Support will be offered by the Leadership and Discipleship Director.
Qualifications:
An active relationship with Jesus.
Some understanding of camp ministry (in general).
Experience in working with children and youth with behavioural or physical exceptionalities, mental health needs, gender and sexuality diversity, and/or cultural differences.
Valid First Aid Certification, or willing to obtain.
Mental Health care training is preferred but not required.
Expectations
Adhere to the Camp Kadesh Staff Manual and the MPSM Code of Conduct
Attend weekly support team meeting.
Be involved and take leadership roles in staff meetings, leadership clusters, one-on-ones, and community groups.
Contribute in a positive manner to the Kadesh community.
Responsibilities
Work alongside the First Aid Responder to educate cabin leaders and skill leaders about complexities their camper may be facing because of a known exceptionality.
Provide tools and strategies for staff to know how to work in situations with their specific camper(s).
Work with the Office Administrator to create a database of campers who need support and to document strategies used with these campers for future support.
Assist in placing campers with qualified and capable cabin-leaders each week.
Assist staff through abuse disclosures.
Come alongside campers with higher needs when a cabin or program staff need to focus on duties elsewhere.
Facilitate phone calls between campers and parents/guardians due to homesickness, emotional need, or the desire to go home.
Create resources that can be used by staff and campers independently.
Accurately document incidents reports.
Assist the First Aid Responder with medical incidents as needed and to cover their responsibilities for one hour each day.
Support staff in maintaining mental and physical health while working at camp.
Serve in whatever other capacities that are seen fit.
This position retains authority:
To remove staff from situations for a camper or staff’s benefit in partnership with Directors.
To approve a camper going home.
To support the Directors and Coordinators in staff direction.
