First Aid Responder

The First Aid Responder is the primary response to all land based emergencies and medical needs. They will oversee the collection and administration of all prescription and over the counter medication, provide general medical care throughout the week, contact parents/caregivers about camper medical issues, and provide incident reports when necessary. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and be certified in First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain). Preference is given to those who have health care experience or are in a health care related field of study.

Organization

  • The First Aid Responder is responsible directly to the Directors.

  • Will work in partnership with Waterfront Coordinator in areas of camper emergency procedures.

  • Have a willingness to be outdoors in all types of weather.

Preferred candidates will:

  • Hold a Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR-C.

  • Be able to work in a team environment and independently.

  • Have previous leadership experience,.

  • Be 18 years of age.

  • Hold a Saskatchewan Class 5 licence or similar.

Expectations

  • Adhere to the Camp Kadesh Staff Manual and the MPSM Code of Conduct.

  • Attend weekly support team meeting.

  • Be involved and take leadership roles in staff meetings, leadership clusters, one-on-ones, and community groups.

  • Contribute in a positive manner to the Kadesh community.

Responsibilities

  • Medication Management (50%)

    • Responsible for the administration of guest medication as outlined by their parents/guardians, and medical professionals.

    • Organize and coordinate prescribed medication schedule.

    • Receive and catalogue medication on guest arrival.

    • Correspond with campers and parent/guardian as to the proper procedure for administration of medication.

    • Return medication to parents/guardians at the end of guest stay.

  • First Aid Response (30%)

    • Responsible for rapid response to a wide variety of medical emergencies.

    • Work a flexible schedule that requires evenings and mornings as issues arise.

    • Consult Camp Director on all medical injuries requiring advanced medical treatment.

    • Assist the Camper Support Coordinator with camper incidents as needed and to cover their responsibilities for one hour each day.

  • Administration(15%)

    • Communicate to the Camp Director daily first aid administration report.

    • Track first aid supplies, and communicate to the Camp Director when supplies are needed.

    • Keep a medical log book of all first-aid treatment.

  • Service and Participation (5%)

    • Lead aspects of staff training.

    • Work alongside the Camper Support Coordinator to educate cabin leaders and skill leaders about complexities their camper may be facing because of a known exceptionality.
