Camp Kadesh is seeking an individual to lead our kitchen for our Spring & Summer camp programming.  A great candidate will have a history of quality food service to various size groups, a passion for Christian camp ministry, be a joy filled follower of Jesus, and who loves working as part of a team.

We are currently planning to run an close to normal capacity for our Spring OREC and Summer Camp programming.

Spring OREC: This programming runs Monday to Friday though May & June. It involved a mix of both day programming and overnight programming. For overnight programming we provide 3 meals and a snack. For day programming we provide one meal and feed our staff. The head cook will give direction to both options and we will hire additional kitchen staff to handle increased meal volumes.

Kids Camps:  July & August - This is the traditional summer camp format.  Supper on Sunday through lunch Friday (with Staff meal on Friday night), numbers will be between 90 and 120 campers per week and staff at about 40 – 65.   We serve three meals per day, plus an evening snack.  We hire three staff in addition to the Head Cook position and typically have some volunteers in addition to paid staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Kitchen menu planning and food ordering in line with established budgets

  • Managing receiving of food deliveries and/or in city grocery pickups

  • Management of kitchen inventory and supplies (and awareness of equipment needs)

  • Coaching and coordination of seasonal staff and volunteers working in the kitchen.  (Depending on start date, to be involved with hiring where possible as well)

  • Supervision of meal preparation, timely meal service, and clean up

  • Ensure proper food storage and daily sanitation

  • Coaching and coordination of staff and volunteers in training, food preparation, and general encouragement and support

  • Understanding the key role food service plays as part of the ministry and mission of Camp Kadesh

  • Facilitate or oversee accommodation of dietary concerns where possible within budget limits

  • Parent correspondence about camper special food needs

Qualifications

  • Experience and comfort cooking for small and large groups

  • Knowledge of special diets such as, but not exclusively limited to: gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian

  • Able to work in a team environment and independently

  • FoodSafe level 1 certified.

  • Basic computer skills.  (MS Word & Excel, Online ordering programs and Google docs primarily)

  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver license (or equivalent)

  • Enjoy and connect well with people of all ages

  • Previous experience working in Christian camp ministry is preferred.

  • Mature Christian, able to agree with the Camp Kadesh statements of faith and values.

  • Agree to the Mission and Purpose of Camp Kadesh.

Compensation

This position is contract position at $600 - $700 per week for a person meeting all the qualifications.  Some flexibility on pay would be possible depending on qualifications and experience. Contract includes onsite housing options.  Contract term would be May 1 to August 26 (with some flexibility on start date)

Summer camp programming under the name Camp Kadesh, was established in its current location in 1982 after many years of a variety of programming in various locations under the banner of our legal name of Mid Prairie Scripture Mission.

  • Outdoor recreation programs in Spring, Fall and Winter

  • Kadesh sponsored retreats and also rentals for church retreat groups.
